NaPoWriMo 2024 day 7

Pen on top of an open book

Day 7 of NaPoWriMo.

My poem

From a writing prompt.

Bird in a cage

The bars of steel surrounding me
Are keeping me from flight
No space to spread my wings apart
And soar into the sky

I have to find an exit out
I have to find the key
And if I don't I'll break the bars
From picking with my beak

Featured poem

By the queen, Emily Dickinson.

The Mountain

by Emily Dickinson

The mountain sat upon the plain
In his eternal chair,
His observation omnifold,
His inquest everywhere.

The seasons prayed around his knees,
Like children round a sire:
Grandfather of the days is he,
Of dawn the ancestor.
